ABOUT SARAH AFFLECK

 

Sarah Affleck is a set designer working in the field of film, theatre and television. Since graduating from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2011 she has endeavoured to explore design and its many facets.  Her formal education in design began at Curtin University of Technology where she completed a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion and Textile Design and received commendation for design innovation. This design training continued at WAAPA where she achieved an Advanced Diploma of Design for Live Performance, Theatre and Events.

 

Her most recent design project involved design for the Nordic Cultural Festival of the Deaf. For this she created a set for the “Culture Factory” an installation situated in the festival foyer which explores the relationship between Nordic culture and factory through performance and workshops.

 

Before moving to Finland Sarah lived in Vancouver, Canada where she worked as assistant set decorator for motion 58 Entertainment’s indie feature Eadweard directed by Kyle Rideout. This Canadian feature film tells the story of renowned scientific photographer Eadweard Muybridge.

 

Sarah’s design experience reaches from the eccentric Australian characters of A Cheery Soul directed by Toni Scanlan to the awkward, overachieving musical comedy that is The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, directed by Adam Mitchell. She has worked with Leon Krasenstein in Tasmania on a dance titled Heart Matters, Choreographed by Graeme Murphy, Chrissie Parrott and Janet Vernon, creating fabulous costumes and environments to enhance these premier dance works.

 

Ingenuity is one of the many traits Sarah brings to the design industry. Sarah envisages a career that will take her from catwalk, to screen, stage and exhibition, creating opportunities to explore the nuances of design along the way.
